Who we are?

* Proyecto Miradas (Glances Project)

The project will be implemented by Sofia Mendez and Daniel Ekdesman, with a long experience with Proyecto Miradas (PM) to bring astronomy to schools with limited financial resources in all Latin American countries for 5 years.

PM has worked with over 10,000 children vulnerable populations and is officially supported by the Ministry of Education of Argentina and other countries, and the National University of Rosario, among many other endorsements.

In 2012 a television chain England made an audiovisual documentary on PM in Mexico, after winning an international competition (video).

In 2014 PM worked with UNESCO and UNAWE by schools throughout Central America after winning a contest and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) (centroamerican project).

PM is currently in Rosario (Argentina) performing astronomy workshops in different suburbs and surrounding towns. It is also close to publish a book about the experience in America and a documentary series for TV about working with UNAWE-UNESCO.

Mobile planetarium to popularize astronomy

What?

The mobile planetarium is a self-sustaining effective tool to attract childrens from vulnerable populations to astronomy.

Why?

The new generations do not tend to look at the sky, in the big cities light pollution can see only a few stars, astronomy is inaccessible to vulnerable populations in Argentina, is not even included in school science content. With this situation are the members of Proyecto Miradas* (PM) when they come out to dictate their astronomy dissemination workshops in informal settlements, public schools, cultural and health centers, psychiatric institutions of Rosario and its surroundings.
The planetarium allows to know the secrets of Cosmos attractive and entertaining way. It is a tool of endless educational possibilities and an unforgettable learning experience.
Being mobile also provides the ability to work with different vulnerable populations who otherwise can not access this experience, being very practical to meet the different needs and objectives of a large area of influence.
Therefore it is considered that this experience can be the gateway to the fascinating world of astronomy for thousands of children.
In addition, the project includes its own self-sustaining, generating their own income that will allow the continuation of free educational activities for vulnerable populations.
